IPi Recorder Changelog

From iPiSoft Wiki
Jump to: navigation, search

Here you can find history of recent versions of iPi Recorder.

iPi Recorder has built-in auto update functionality. Auto update feature is configured so that checks for update are made once per day. It helps to reduce the start time of the application. If you want to update ASAP — you can use the tools > check for update menu item.

Note that both these features require Internet connection. Alternatively (in case of troubles with auto update), you can download and run the updated installation program from our website.

  • Added support for newer model of Wii Remote Plus. This requires using Toshiba Bluetooth stack.
Actually, this model has been around for quite a while (since 2012). But it seems that all users, which employed Wii Remotes with our software before, have the older model.

 N E W    F E A T U R E S:

  • Elevation angle for Kinect and PS Move sphere color can be changed right from on-screen controls (no need to press the PROPERTIES button). Accessible at any screen, not only at Setup.
  • The new RESET DEVICES button at the Record screen allows to recover from certain errors occurred during recording without the need to return back to the Devices screen.
When some device switches to error state (usually there is a red message on its screen), use this button to try to recover. Beforehand, check that there is no hardware failure like disconnected cable. If the device does not recover after several tries, return to the Devices screen or restart the program.
  • Motion controllers shortcuts in tooltips for START / STOP / EVALUATE buttons. For those who forget or does not still know :)
  • Installer now installs Kinect SDK 1.8 (previously was 1.6). Versions 1.6 through 1.8 are supported.

 B U G    F I X E S:

  • Fixed occasional crashes when opening an iPiVideo file from Windows Explorer.
  • Fixed incorrect camera screen layout after the background evaluation.
  • Improved behavior at recording startup to prevent false Hang-up detected errors.
  • Necessary components, which are (rarely) not present on a user system, were added to the installer.

  • Audio recording capability.
Recording is possible with just one of available audio inputs. Select a microphone at the Devices stage. At the Setup stage you can change your selection and also set the desired audio quality.
  • Basic file operations: rename, delete, open containing folder.
These operations are available in player, recent records list, conversion tasks list. In recent records list, the only visible action by default is Play. To see other available actions, press on the vertical ellipsis to the right from the Play button.
  • Improved synchronization of the cameras during recording.

 B U G    F I X E S:

 N E W    F E A T U R E S:

  • Improved performance with Motion in Joy Bluetooth drivers
This should remove (or at least greatly reduce) freezing issues that some users experienced on Windows 8 when recording with PS Move.

 B U G    F I X E S:

  • Fixed app crash on exhausting the disk space while recording.
The recording ends slightly before reaching critical remaining disk space values. This is especially actual for users employing a RAM drive for recording.

 N E W    F E A T U R E S:

  • Compatibility with Kinect SDK 1.7
Note: Both versions of Kinect SDK are supported: 1.6 and 1.7. iPi Recorder installation program still suggests version 1.6 of Kinect SDK. Anyway, you are free to use any of these versions — tracking quality is the same.

 N E W    F E A T U R E S:

  • Official support for PrimeSense Carmine sensor.
It was implicitly supported in previous versions recognized as ASUS Xtion Live. Now it is detected separately, though there is an opposite issue of recognizing ASUS Xtion Live with updated firmware as Carmine.
  • Main window size and state (whether it is maximized) are automatically restored on the application startup.

 B U G    F I X E S:

  • Fixed data cut-off issue when using the background subtraction compression for depth data.
This issue particularly affected feet at the floor.
  • Fixed improper behavior when changing video mode after recording in certain situations.
  • Fixed app crash when setting JPEG compression quality to 0.
Minimum JPEG quality value has been raised to 30 to prevent very low quality recordings.

 N E W    F E A T U R E S:

  • Support for Nintendo Wii Remote Plus motion controller
  • Moved to Microsoft Kinect SDK 1.6
Warning. Kinect SDK 1.6 should be installed to get support for Kinects with this version of iPi Recorder.
  • Start/stop recording using a motion controller. Hold the button for a couple of seconds to toggle recording. Also works when starting background evaluation.
    • Start button on PS Move
    • A button on Wii Remote
  • Indication of battery charge level for motion controllers
  • Sequential background evaluation for depth sensors. This removes infrared interference effects on background picture.
Tip. In case you are going away from PC when evaluating background, be aware that now for dual sensor configuration, background evaluation lasts about twice the duration setting.
  • Detecting when too many cameras are connected to a single USB controller
  • Optimizing application performance (especially startup time) for the system on which it is installed (using NGen)
tools > optimize app menu item
  • Launching Windows Device Manager directly from the menu
tools > device manager menu item
  • Improved persistence of settings for motion controllers

 B U G    F I X E S:

 N E W    F E A T U R E S:

  • Improved alignment of depth and color images.
Device-specific parameters are obtained for each depth sensor and written to iPiVideo file during recording. This gives high accuracy of aligning depth and color images in iPi Mocap Studio. Implemented both for Microsoft Kinect and ASUS Xtion Live.
  • Opening video in iPi Mocap Studio with one click.
Each recorded or converted video file in addition to existed Play button now has Open In Studio button (icon is letter "S"). Press this button, and (if installed) iPi Mocap Studio will launch with the New Project wizard open for the selected video file.
  • New help menu.
Contains user's guide, release notes and EULA.
  • Further performance improvements

 B U G    F I X E S:

  • Frame drops statistics were not counted properly for ASUS Xtions.

 N E W    F E A T U R E S:

  • Preventing from going to screensaver/stand by mode. Works for Recorder (starting from Setup stage), Player (when playing), Converter (only standby, when converting).
  • JPEG compression is supported for all source camera image formats. Also its performance is improved.
Note 1. JPEG compression reduces quality of source image. For color cameras (not depth sensors), use it only when really necessary (e.g. your system is low on disk space or writing speed).
Note 2. PS Eye videos recorded with JPEG compression would not be read with iPi Mocap Studio prior to version 2.0.0.137. Please ensure you have updated to compatible version.
  • Improved performance for PS Eye recording.
  • Default folder for storing recorded videos is set to user's documents folder.
Note. By an oversight, in previous versions default folder was set to iPi Recorder's installation folder. That is something like C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Apps\2.0\B5TATZ4A.47Z\CN6K71PK.J0W\ipir..tion_dd200afcf7b6b7ee_0002.0000_c0485bd65ddfb5d4 (on Windows Vista/7) or C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Apps\2.0\B5TATZ4A.47Z\CN6K71PK.J0W\ipir..tion_dd200afcf7b6b7ee_0002.0000_c0485bd65ddfb5d4 (on Windows XP). Path parts after Apps\2.0 contain some "random" characters defined by specific system installation. In case you did not change that default folder, your records might be deleted when updating or uninstalling iPi Recorder. To be on the safe side, please check if you still have .iPiVideo or .iPiMocap files somewhere under mentioned ...\Apps\2.0 folder and, if found any, move them to some "normal" location.
  • More reliable counting of frame drops.
  • Improved error handling.

 B U G    F I X E S:

  • Fixed the issue causing crash during recording (see [1]).
  • Fixed the issue causing hang up during conversion of certain AVI files (see [2]).

 N E W    F E A T U R E S:

  • Improved speed performance for the Background subtraction compression method, and depth channel compression. This should help to resolve frame drops issues that some users experience when recording, especially from PS Eye cameras.
WARNING. iPi Mocap Studio prior to version 2.0.0.132 may not open videos recorded with this release of iPi Recorder. Ensure that you're using the latest version of iPi Mocap Studio (see version info in Help > About window). In case you need an update, try restarting application (an automatic update should launch), or download and run the latest installer from the downloads page at our website. Videos recorded with previous versions of iPi Recorder can still be opened by any version of iPi Mocap Studio.

  • Added functionality for displaying the program trace and saving it to a file. To display trace window, press the SHOW TRACE button located under the tools menu. Program trace contains diagnostic messages produced by software. When iPi Recorder is not working properly, you can save the trace and attach to your issue report. It may help us in investigation of the issue.
  • Some performance improvements.

 B U G    F I X E S:

  • Fixed ignoring changes to output file name in Converter. This issue is discussed in this topic [5].
